Meet Mena the Writer
My introduction and why you should stay
Hello, fellow readers…
This is my first article on Substack and I thought I should introduce myself. As promised in my note yesterday, I’ve been brainstorming ideas to define me and my “brand”.
First, you might have noticed I am a different author posting on the Michi. I am Lizzy the Ronin’s sister and lesser half. She introduced me to Substack yesterday and I couldn’t wait to get writing as I enjoy it so much. I saw her introduction article and thought I should do the same.
Why a writer?
Lizzy had this section explaining why she choose a Ronin so I wanted to explain why I chose my title as well. Mine is not as cool as hers but there is a reason behind it.
As a writer, I am not just an article’s author, but rather anything that can be written. I have always had a passion for writing-books, articles, commentaries, scripts, diaries, recipes, book or character analysis-literally anything that can be written. I don’t want to limit myself to one specific written work because I never know what I may think of next.
I see writing as a work of art, in any form, as it forces one to think, structure, and rationalize one’s thoughts. It has also been my way of relieving stress and thoughts that build up over time. I believe the greatest ideas have each started as one single thought that transformed into something more and needed to be written down.
More about me…
My sister and I would love to start a YouTube channel where we can talk about everything we love. I want to do voiceovers like one of my favorite creators, DerekFDB, does. I’m planning to do one soon and I hope you guys will join me!
I am currently juggling college, work, hobbies, and now this, so bear with me if I disappear for a bit at times.
Likes…
My favorite drink has to be chai tea with oat milk and stevia, but if I’m going for simple, just a cup of black coffee. I honestly don’t have a favorite dish but breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. Sometimes I’ll just have that…three times a day. I think I’ll need a separate article for all the food I like since I can’t decide.
My favorite past times are listening to music, watching movies, baking, writing of course, kickboxing, and yes, like my sister said, eating. I would rather cook or bake for her though and watch her eat it. That’s not as weird as it sounds-I genuinely like when someone enjoys my cooking.
Now that I think about it I may have a separate article for each of these but just to give y’all a taste:
Favorite artists: Lana Del Rey, The Neighbourhood, any old country artists
Favorite movies: Avengers, The Dark Knight, John Wick, How to Train Your Dragon
Favorite shows: Supernatural, The Boys, Friends, Gossip Girl, Stranger Things
I’m currently binging those shows-at the same time-yes, I’m slightly crazy but my sister and I like to mix it up depending on how we feel. We finished Stranger Things-disappointing btw-but haven’t finished the rest. I’m watching Gossip Girl by myself which is sad…but I couldn’t get Lizzy to watch it. If y’all are fans, convince her in the comments.
Favorite Characters…
Since Lizzy had a favorite characters of all time section I will do that as well:
Loki, Soldier Boy from the boys, the Joker (Heath Ledger), and Dan Humphrey from Gossip Girl.

Now, here me out! Let me justify: Loki is a soft spot for my heart since I feel exactly how he feels sometimes-being ignored or in your older sibling’s shadow. I know he’s psychotic but he’s also so adorable and loveable.
Enough about him-Soldier Boy is one of the reasons I enjoyed the Boys so much-besides Kimiko and Frenchie. He’s what got me into Supernatural so he will always be special. Also I love not know exactly what is going to come out of his mouth next.
Joker was my first favorite character ever at least for live action movies. I thought his insanity made the movie so enjoyable for me. I always enjoyed how intense it was as everyone is racing to know his next move but they end up making the move he planned. He’s a psychotic genius.
And finally, Dan Humphrey is significant to me because of course, he’s a writer. He’s encouraged me to keep going even when my writing feels dry. Also the fact that he’s an outsider hit home for me. Growing up with no friends and always feeling like I don’t belong made me feel for him. For the most part he’s a morally good character in a show full of betrayal and manipulation. I do like that he has his own dark side though-not just righteous all the way through.
Now I realized I like a bunch of psychos. I promise you guys I’m not-or am I? Maybe we’re all a little crazy.
Baking…
I have this itch to bake when I haven’t for a while and I think I do it to much. My family is always trying to cut sugar and stay healthy but then I dump more sweets on them. Lizzy encourages me to eat healthy as well but it’s honestly a struggle. I have a sweet tooth…🥺
I’ve sold cakes to my coworkers after they’ve tasted my sweets and here are a few samples:

From left to right: matcha cake with matcha frosting, vanilla tiramisu cake with cocoa dusting, and carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.
I think I’ve rambled enough and now y’all know me a bit. I can’t wait to write more and share my thoughts with you guys! Let me know if any of you have the same likes or hobbies! Hope Lizzy enjoys my intro as much as I enjoyed hers!
Thank you for inviting me to the Michi…I will strive to find our wandering travelers and make it successful.

Would love to hear from you guys!

aww don't every degrade yourself! I'm the Dean to your Sam not the the Thor to your Loki 🥺even if so, Thor sees Loki as his equal...which you are to me. And I didn't know you were still watching Gossip Girl! Glad to know you still have something to watch when I'm in one of those moods...
Honestly can't agree more with most of this stuff...the fact that we share the same taste in artists, actors, characters, movies...it's crazy! But so glad we can agree on so much stuff.
I know you love baking and making me meals and don't stop doing it :) I love waking up to a really good breakfast. It makes my day so much better.
And yes, yes! soo soo happy you became a part of the Michi! I love your writing and it's so obviously better than mine (was that "so" even correct in that sentence?). Also look forward to YouTubing :D
This is a great introduction to Mena, highlights her honest, unfiltered writing style and why people should read her!
